Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Using an air fryer to cook chicken wings is a great idea, and if you try it, you’ll make chicken a lot more often. The forced circulation of hot air makes the skin super crispy, which is hard to do in a regular oven, and the centre is perfectly cooked, tender, and juicy.

Air Fryer Chicken Wings only take 16 minutes to cook (3 times faster than a traditional oven). Since you don’t have to heat up an air fryer, this is the fastest way to make crispy chicken wings.

Which Air Fryer is the Best?

Air fryers come in 2 very different styles. The first kind is like a toaster oven and has a small oven door, like this one by Cuisinart, this one by Farberware, or this fancy one by Breville.

The second type is one with a drawer or basket that slides in. Brands like Phillips, Gourmia, and Nuwave have this type. We like the Cuisinart air fryer recipes that look like a toaster oven because it can fit more food and do more things. It took the place of our old toaster oven because it can bake, broil, toast, and fry in the air.

How to Use Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings:

You’ll want to write down the tips and tricks for making these wings, or you can just print out the recipe card at the bottom of this post. Before you start, use paper towels to dry the chicken wings.

Adding a little baking powder to the mixture is another way to make wings crispier in the air fryer. Baking powder helps make the skin crisp. You’ll love this recipe for chicken wings cooked in an air fryer so much that you’ll never want to eat them any other way.

INGREDIENTS

  • Once you cut up the 12 whole wings, you’ll have 24 wings.
  • favourite sauce: I like to make my own sauce with cayenne pepper, butter, and hot sauce.
  • Garlic powder gives the wings a little extra taste.
  • Olive oil: I always put a little oil on the wings before I add any other spices.
  • baking powder makes the skin of the finished hot wings extra crispy.
  • salt – to taste
  • pepper – as you like

How to Make Chicken Wings in an Air Fryer:

If your wings are full, divide them into drums and flat parts.

  1. Make sure they’re no longer frozen.
  2. Pat them all the way dry (this will help them get crispy).
  3. Add oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the wings.
  4. Toss the wings to cover them all.
  5. You can use your own favourite spices, but this is a basic blend of traditional chicken wing spices (and delicious).
  6. Put the Air Fryer on for two minutes at 400 F.
  7. Put the wings in the air fryer in a single layer (they shouldn’t touch) and cook at 400 F for 10 minutes.
  8. When the timer goes off, carefully open the oven and flip the chicken wings over.
  9. Close the air fryer and cook for 8 minutes at 400 degrees F.
  10. Take off the chicken wings and serve with your favourite sides or dips.

Can I Make Twice as Much?

For chicken wings that are crispy all over, it’s best to keep them in a single layer. You can double everything if you have a bigger air fryer like our Cuisinart model. When you double the recipe, air-fry the wings for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the skin is crispy, flipping them halfway through. Your bake time will depend on how big your air fryer basket is.

Can I Use a Regular Oven to Bake These?

It takes a lot longer to get chicken wings that are crispy in the oven. To bake these chicken wings in a regular oven, preheat the oven to 400 F and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, flipping the wings after 30 minutes, or until they are crispy.

What to Eat with Air Fryer Chicken Wings:

  • Serve with your favourite dips, like Cilantro Lime Dip, Jalapeno Ranch, The Best Chunky Blue Cheese, or Homemade Buffalo Sauce.
  • Serve with a side of corn on the cob. Corn on the cob made in the Instant Pot or Air Fryer is always a hit.
  • Make frozen French fries or Tater Tots in the air fryer to go with the wings.
  • Chicken Wings go very well with a hearty scoop of Creamy Mac and Cheese.
  • Or, serve the wings with a Simple Wedge Salad.
  • One of my favourite sides is now Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries. So much better for you than fried food!
  • Serve with just celery and carrots and a side of blue cheese dressing.

Can Chicken Wings Be Baked?

Yes, but they take a lot longer to get crispy. Set the oven to 400 degrees and spread the wings out on a baking sheet in a single layer (place on an oven rack on top of the baking sheet to get crispier). Bake for 30 minutes, then turn the pan over and bake for another 15–30 minutes, depending on how crisp you want it to be.

Disclaimer:

The Cosori Air Fryer was used to make this recipe. If you use a different air fryer, you may need to change the amount of time you cook the food. Bigger wings will take longer to cook than smaller ones. These are the best chicken wings you can make in an air fryer, and you only need a few simple ingredients to make them.
