Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar is the gateway to Mount Everest. It is a town in Solukhumbu district, Khumbu, Pasang Lhamu, Municipality, province no 1. The town is located in northeastern Nepal and covers an area of 3,440 meters.

You can find different types of transportation from Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar. There are private flights, private jeeps, and even helicopters that can take you from Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar.

By Flight

During treks in the Khumbu region, the typical mode of transportation from Kathmandu to Namche Bazaar involves taking a flight. Many trekkers opt for planes from Kathmandu to Lukla, where they land before commencing their trek to Phakding, which subsequently leads to Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar also serves as the main location for acclimatization day during treks.

Normally it takes up to 20 to 25 minutes from Kathmandu to Lukla. You will land at the Tenzing Hillary Airport where you can stop for breakfast or continue your trek to Phakding.

After a few days, you will reach Namche Bazaar where you will come across a huge town amidst all the small and remote villages.

The Kathmandu to Lukla flight costs about $150 to $250.

By Private Jeep

You can reach Namche Bazaar by private jeep via Phalpu or Jiri. From Kathmandu to either Jiri or Phalpu it takes a single day. Now head towards Lukla to continue your trek.

There is no transport available so the only option is to trek. Expect overnight stays in teahouses along the way.

The trip from Kathmandu via Jeep is also among the most exciting trips of your journey. You will pass through several river banks, bridges, and waterfalls along the way with a view of mountains surrounding you.

Private jeep to Jiri or Phalpu from Kathmandu costs $30-45, with seats for 7-8 trekkers.

By Helicopter

The helicopter journey is very enjoyable but expensive. Within just 30 minutes, you can reach Lukla via helicopter.

You can land directly in the town as there is the option of a special helicopter tour from Kathmandu to Namche.

During this trek, you will come across some of the best panoramic views of the mountain. After landing in the town you will have ample time to explore different attractions.

Helicopter price from Kathmandu to Namche ranges from $500 to $750 but if you plan to book a chartered private helicopter then the cost increases to $3000.
