Best Things to Do in Tenerife For a Relaxing And Enjoyable Vacation

The first thing you have to do if you want to visit Tenerife, the largest and one of the best islands in Spain’s Canary Islands, is figuring out what you want to do there. Tenerife is a beautiful island with good weather all year round.

There are a lot of the best things to do in Tenerife, both in cities and in the countryside, from going to the beach to hiking in the mountains. No matter what kind of traveler you are, you can always find something fun to do.

But before I tell you where to go to Tenerife, I think you should rent a car. During our trip, we found a lot of great places to stop and look at the view or enjoy nature. So, there’s no better way to see the island than in your car.

What is Tenerife’s History?

The Guanche people are the first people who are known to have lived in Tenerife. They were the first people to live on the island, and they were there around 200 BC. Unlike most Spaniards, who have dark hair and olive skin, these people had light hair and were tall. They looked like they were from Scandinavia.

Tenerife is a busy Spanish island that is known for its beautiful beaches and lively nightlife. It is also known as one of the best places in Europe to look at the stars.

Best Things to Do in Tenerife

Tenerife is a popular Spanish island located off the coast of west Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Boasting beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, and a vibrant nightlife, there is no shortage of things to do on the island. From exploring the rugged coastline to taking in the views from the top of Mount Teide, Tenerife has something for everyone. Visitors can also explore the largest Island’s charming villages and towns, sample local cuisine, and enjoy a variety of water sports. Whether you’re looking for an exciting adventure or a relaxing getaway, Tenerife is an ideal destination for all types of travelers.

Here are some of the best things to do in Tenerife:

1: Visit La Laguna Beach

La Laguna Beach is an idyllic spot for those looking for a sunny escape in Tenerife. Located in the north of the island, the beach is surrounded by a lush landscape of palm trees, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing day in the sun. The beach stretches for over a mile and boasts fine golden sand and clear turquoise waters. Visitors can enjoy activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and windsurfing, as well as take part in the many exciting water sports available. La Laguna Beach is definitely a must-visit destination for anyone looking to make the most of their stay in Tenerife.

2: Enjoy The Sunset At Las Canteras Bay

Las Canteras Bay is one of the most popular spots on the island for tourists looking to take in a stunning view. The bay boasts a long, golden beach, crystal clear waters, and plenty of sun loungers and parasols for visitors to relax in. The bay is also home to a number of restaurants and bars where visitors can enjoy a glass of wine or a bite to eat. When the sun sets, Las Canteras Bay transforms into one of the most beautiful places in Tenerife – perfect for taking in a romantic sunset after a busy day exploring the island.

3: Visit Los Corrales de Santa Cruz

Los Corrales de Santa Cruz is an impressive site located in the southern part of Tenerife. The monastery was built in 1527 by Saint Christopher Columbus and features some of the best-preserved architecture from that era. Visitors can explore the monastery, which is open to the public from Monday to Friday 9 am to 2 pm, or take in a stunning view of the coastline from the lookout tower. The views are especially worth seeing during sunset when the pink and orange sky turns a radiant red.

4: Hike To Teide National Park

Teide National Park is one of the most popular destinations in Tenerife for hikers. The park features an incredible array of landscapes including mountains, valleys, forests, and beaches. There are dozens of hiking trails available, each with its own unique attractions and challenges. If you’re looking for a longer hike that will take you through some stunning scenery. Teide National Park is definitely the place for you.

5: Drive Along The Coast

If you’re looking for something more relaxing than hiking, driving along the coast will give you plenty to see and do. The coastline is lined with beautiful beaches and cliff-lined bays, making it a perfect place to take in stunning views. It has the world’s tallest water slide, the world’s largest man-made waves, and the world’s highest elevated lazy river.

Where is the Best Place to go Hiking in Tenerife?

Grab your hiking boots and head to Anaga in the northeast of the island to see some of Tenerife’s best sights. Anaga is a natural wonder that looks like it was taken right out of a fairy tale. It is very different from the purpose-built resorts in the south. Anaga will take your breath away with its jungle-like forests, old, twisted dragon trees, and impossible-to-climb mountains. Are Hiking Pants Necessary?

The quick answer to the question “are hiking pants necessary?” would be:

No, hiking pants are not necessary, but they are highly recommended. Especially for longer and more difficult hikes, the need for true hiking pants becomes greater.

Why are Hiking Pants Recommendable?

Hiking pants have a couple of characteristics that make hiking in them so much more pleasant.

First, they are lighter, more flexible, comfortable, breathable, and dry faster than other pants.

One of the biggest counterarguments is often that hiking pants are expensive. While I understand that first reaction, I will counter that by stating that there are budget-friendly hiking pants that are actually high quality. (The linked article also has the best information about what to look for in good hiking pants).

From my research and personal experience, you can find good quality hiking pants starting from $30, maybe even a bit cheaper. If you intend to do more than some short and easy walks, it really is worth it.

Are Hiking Pants Waterproof?

Even though hiking pants are usually water-repellent, they are not waterproof. This means that you won’t get wet from a couple of water drops, but you will get wet when it’s properly raining.

The reason for this is that hiking pants have to be very breathable, waterproof, and breathable is not a realistic combination.

That said, good hiking pants are quick-drying. Meaning that even when your pants are soaked they will soon enough dry themselves. If you have ever been absolutely soaked on a hiking trip, you understand how important this is. I can’t imagine wearing jeans, these will soak up lots of water, become very heavy and uncomfortable and it will take ages before they dry.

Comfort is one thing, but if you hike many miles in these wet conditions, you could get rashes. Once again, getting hiking pants might not be absolutely necessary, but it is really worth it.

What Pants Can be Used for Hiking?

If I haven’t convinced you by now, I guess you will never be convinced. Let’s take a look at some of the alternatives to hiking pants. Not all pants are equally bad for hiking.

Jeans

Even though people are often wearing jeans when hiking in the movies or in photos, this is not a realistic picture. Jeans are definitely not made to use for hiking.

They are heavy, not flexible, take very long to dry, are not breathable… In other words, jeans are one of the worst pants to wear while hiking.

That said, for shorter and easy hikes, you can basically wear what you want.

Jogging Pants

Jogging pants can be an acceptable alternative to hiking pants if they are made from synthetic material

These pants dry fast, are very flexible, and are comfortable. However, they are usually not very durable and are not made from a ripstop material. Meaning that you can easily damage the pants when climbing over rocks or getting stuck behind branches in the forest.

However, when it comes to wool jogging pants, the verdict is a lot worse. Even though these types of pants are comfortable, they are also heavy, not breathable, and dry very slowly.

Let’s Conclude: Are Hiking Pants Necessary?

Theoretically, I cannot answer this question with yes. However, it’s so recommendable that I really want to make the statement that hiking pants are necessary.

The real verdict is simple: Hiking pants are not necessary, but they are highly recommendable.

Hiking work and pants are breathable, lightweight, durable, and won’t rip as easily, flexible, and comfortable. And no, they don’t have to be very expensive.

If you are wondering whether hiking pants are worth it, the answer is loud and clear: Yes!

Important navigational aids for approaching ships were lighthouses. The shifting terrain around Nantucket is known to have caused the loss of over 700 vessels throughout documented history.

The Brant Point Lighthouse is among the most popular sites on Nantucket. It is located just outside of downtown, making it relatively accessible. If you take a ferry to Nantucket, you will likely see it en route.

Brant Point Light was originally built in 1746. It is the second-oldest lighthouse in America! It is also the shortest lighthouse on New England’s coasts, with a height of 26 feet. The Brant Point Light has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Old Mill

The Old Mill is the only remaining smock mill on Nantucket. The mill, which was constructed in the 1700s and abandoned to the elements in the 1800s, has been meticulously restored to its original design. The Nantucket Historical Association includes a mill that was operational until the late 1800s.

You can visit the old mill and enjoy a tour on its own, or you can combine it with a self-guided tour of the Historic Sites that includes the Oldest House, Old Gaol, Greater Light, and the Fire Hose Cart House. This is a fantastic option for individuals interested in Nantucket’s historical significance.

Sconset Bluff Walk

If you will be in town for a while, make ‘Sconset Bluff Walk your regular morning or evening walking spot. The route is located in the old historic site of Siasconset. With breathtaking views of the sea and heathlands, this is an ideal spot to watch the sunset.

Whaling Museum

The Whaling Museum is open every day from April to December and allows visitors to engage with the island’s past as the world’s whaling capital. It is operated by the Nantucket Historical Society and was named by Andrew Harper as one of ten sites to visit in America before you die.

The new, enlarged exhibit space permits exhibitions such as a 46-foot-long sperm whale dangling from the ceiling, thousands of relics, and 11 distinct galleries. Children enjoy the interactive displays. Visit Tucker’s Roof Walk for breathtaking views of Nantucket Harbor.

Cisco Brewers

On the grounds of Cisco Brewers, which contain a vineyard, a distillery, and a brewery, you may take a walk through a little cottage devoted to each type of beverage and receive a thorough explanation of the production process. And at the conclusion of the walk, remain to try some of the most recent cocktails created by bartenders who are knowledgeable and courteous. Aside from the palatable beverages, most recent guests adore the outdoor location.

Nantucket Atheneum

If you believe that visiting a library is uninteresting, you have never been to the Nantucket Atheneum. This stoic edifice, which was established in 1847 as a free public library, has almost 170,000 visitors annually – in Nantucket! The structure itself is an enormous draw. This impressive Greek edifice was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966 and is difficult to miss. Between its huge columns is a pleasure.

Obviously, there are rows upon rows of books within. The library provides free access to approximately 1.6 million books, in addition to DVDs and CDs. Additionally, they organize approximately 1,300 educational and cultural events annually.

Loines Observatory

A visit to the Loines Observatory will allow you to spend a night gazing at the sky. Allow the astronomy staff to assist you in navigating the night sky, and they will point out constellations and other celestial phenomena that cannot be observed on earth. Observe comets, meteor showers, eclipses, and the international space station.

They offer a summer lecture series in which some of the most prominent astronomers will speak. The Loines Observatory is an ideal location for families to introduce their children to the universe beyond our own.

Final Thoughts

When the island of Nantucket is mentioned, it is not only dunes, lighthouses, and beaches that come to mind.

Be sure to explore some of the island’s beautiful stores and several historic mansions to learn more about the island’s history as you travel to this important Massachusetts annex.

Nantucket will become one of your favorite East Coast destinations if you spend some time enjoying all that it has to offer, regardless of your reason for visiting this charming location.
