Nearly a decade ago, U.S. airlines started offering internet on board, and they’ve been slowly making the service better ever since. Now, it’s almost taken for granted that flights will have Wi-Fi. United Airlines does not use the same Wi-Fi provider as many other airlines. Instead, the type of plane determines which United Wifi service provider is used.

Let’s find out more about United’s WiFi, like who provides it, what kind of service you can expect, and how much you may (or may not) have to pay for it.

United WiFi: Unlimited* Connectivity on the Go

You don’t have to worry about paying for Wi-Fi if you buy a United WiFi pass and connect to a supported hotspot. Our single-sign-on feature also means you won’t have to worry about entering a password or giving your personal information at every WiFi sign-in page. With access to more than 50 million hotspots in more than 180 countries, it’s an easy way for modern travelers to stay connected.

Is United’s WiFi Reliable?

Internet service on planes has never been very reliable, but things are much better now than they were a few years ago. Even though providers have been working with airlines to make Wi-Fi faster and more reliable, you shouldn’t be surprised if some of your flights have slower speeds or even Wi-Fi that doesn’t work.

If you have important work that you can only do with Wi-Fi, you shouldn’t plan your day so that you can do it on the plane.
